Joyous Republic Day, 2022

On the 26 of January (Republic Day)every year, India marks and celebrates this date on which the Constitution of India came into effect; it was on 26, January 1950. The Constitution of India came into effect and it replaced the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. This turned India into a newly formed Republic.

Apart from this, the Day also marks the transition of India from an autonomous Commonwealth realm with the British Monarch into a fully sovereign Republic in the Commonwealth of Nations along with the President of India as the nominal head of the Indian Union.

It was on 26 November 1949 when the Constitution was adopted by the Indian Constitution Assembly and it came into effect on 26 January 1950 along with the democratic government system. This completed the transition of the country into becoming an independent Republic.

Why 26 January was chosen?

26 January was chosen as the date for Republic day because it was on this particular day in 1929 when the Declaration of the Indian Independence (the Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress in lieu of the Realm status as the dominion.

Every year, India celebrates Republic Day with zeal and enthusiasm. Spectacular parades take place at Rajpath, New Delhi which involves the Indian National Army and the hoisting of the Indian National Flag in various parts of India. The parade is conducted by the President of India and is arranged by the Ministry of Defence.

In the history of 1965, it was on this day when Hindi was declared as the official language of the country. This year will be marked as India’s 73rd Republic Day.

Significance of the Day
