WHAT TO SPEAK AND HOW TO SPEAK IN ENGLISH?

We know that the English language is universal that is used to have conversations across the globe, and it is important to know what to speak in English and what not It is the most spoken language across the globe.

Facts say that English is the most spoken language in the World. 53 countries have named English as their official language. Globally, about 400 million people speak in English and it is their first language. It is also the most common second language in the world.

English is a language of England and since they started building colonies, the language started to spread and began to gain worldwide acceptance.

Learning the English language can be difficult for many of us who do not have an English background. But, you need to get through it, and for this, being consistent in learning, dedication to adapt, and having the willingness to learn are the main key aspects you need to focus on.

There are two ways in which you decide to talk depending on the situation. First one is formal conversation and the other one is informal. Formal is more like a professional way of speaking. You cannot speak like you do in your daily lives. Formal speaking is majorly practiced in workplaces since it is a professional upfront. While on the other side, informal speaking happens when you are with your friends and families, where there is no workplace barrier. Informal conversations are more friendly and light. You can have informal conversations when you are at home, with friends, at a party, bar, concert, garden, etc.

There are different ways to speak in English in both the aspects. While you are having an informal talk, you don’t need to think much about anything, you can just say what you are thinking or what your thoughts are about. On the other hand, when you are having a formal talk, you need to focus on everything that you speak, even the tiniest bit. You need to stress on “Think before you speak” ideology. Just because your workplace is different and your personal space is different, your conversation style should also stay different. It shows what kind of person you are.

One thing that stays common before talking to anybody is ‘Greetings’. It gives a good vibe from your side and creates a good impression in the mind of the person you are talking with. You start your conversation with greetings and wishes. Then you ask the person how they have been, or how their work is going on, how is their life, etc. This makes the opposite person feel wanted and that you are interested in building a conversation with them. Same stays for your part too, you need to answer the relevant questions they have asked you. It will seem rude if you don’t answer them.

There are many things to keep in mind out of which the first one is to listen to what the opposite person has to say. Understand them and get to know what is going on in their mind. After which you will have to analyse and then tell them what you think about that particular topic.

Make sure that you don’t just jump on what you have to speak. That will make the opposite person think that you just want to speak what you have to and you don’t want to listen to what they have to say. It is humble and polite to ask questions to a person about themselves when you meet them, but it is equally important to answer the questions they have asked you. With this, you can keep your conversation flowing.

If you know that you are not so good at speaking English, this might lower your confidence but don’t give up. Analyse the whole statement they say and focus on the words that you are familiar with and you understand. This will make your work easier. If you have any questions about the person you are talking to, it is good to ask them. It is polite to ask the other person in order to find out more about them and know them in a better way.

Definitely, you have a backup of talking about interest and hobbies when you fall short of topics to speak about. You can ask them about their projects, their work life, how do they maintain their personal and professional lives, etc. Don’t dive into their personal lives, they might get offended or the whole conversation might get awkward. Most of the time it is not a good idea to talk about personal stuff.

Concluding this, there is a way to end a conversation. There is a way to say bye to the person you talk to. Don’t just end the conversation by saying ‘bye’, it might make the person feel neglected that they are not good to have a conversation with. Always make sure that you end your talks with a good note. You can say things like – it was good talking to you, see you again, I’ve had a good time with you, etc. With this, you give a good impression and you create a good image in the mind of the person you were talking to.
