MEANING
Short exclamation words like Hi!, Oh!, Ouch! are called Interjections. We use these words very often in our daily speeches and conversations than writing. Interjections do not have a grammatical importance, also, they do not have a connection with the sentence too! Interjections will be followed by an exclamation mark (!). Interjection stand alone because they express emotions and feelings.
Some of the commonly used interjections are ‘Er. Hey. Ouch!, Umm, Ah!, My God!, Bloody Hell!, Hey!, Well!
EXAMPLES
1, Hey! You don’t have to feel bad about it!
2. Well, let’s talk about it.
3. Ouch! It hurts!
4. Delhi is the capital of …er….India.
As said before, we do not use interjections in formal speech, writings, but they are very commonly used in informal conversations and fictional writing where they express anger, surprise, as well as interest and many other emotions.
